Designing a garden with a pool

We design your garden with a pool: siting, decking, pool house and planting, blending the pool into the landscape.

Florence Merrien, garden designer and creator in the landscape and a graduate of the École nationale supérieure de paysage, will guide you.

A pool is not an object set down in the garden: it is a mirror the landscape comes to live in.

Garden with a pool

A pool that steps into the landscape

Looking for a landscape architect to bring a pool into your garden? We choose the siting, draw the decking and plant around it, then supervise the works. Siting, decking, planting and shelters: everything is drawn together, so that the pool is part of the garden.

  • Siting

The right place for the pool

Chosen according to the sun, the wind and the views, so that the water catches the light.

  • Decking and paths

    Decking to stretch out on

In wood or stone, around the pool and along the paths leading to it.

  • Low-litter plants

    Gentle plants for the edges

Plants suited to the water’s edge, which drop little into the pool.

  • Green screens

    A setting of privacy

Planting that protects your privacy and screens views without closing off the garden.

  • Pool house and summer kitchen

    Shelters for long summers

The pool house and summer kitchen are drawn with the pool, garden lighting included.

  • Safety

A pool in complete peace of mind

The compulsory safety device (French building code, art. L. 134-10), discreetly built into the design.

Frequently asked questions

How do you landscape around a swimming pool?

The pool is designed with the garden: siting according to the sun, the wind and the views, wooden or stone decking, planting that creates privacy, a hidden plant room. The aim: a pool that looks as if it had always been there.

Which plants suit the side of a swimming pool?

Near the pool, plants that drop few leaves and don’t prick: grasses, Mediterranean plants, fine-leaved evergreens. Plants for pollinators are still welcome, but set back from the decking, so that biodiversity and swimming go together.

Do you need permission to build a swimming pool?

Most often, yes. An uncovered pool of more than 10 m² and up to 100 m² requires a prior declaration. Below 10 m², no permission is generally required, except in a protected area or where the local planning rules require it. Other rules apply to large pools and to pool enclosures. In every case, a safety device is compulsory.

What our clients say

Justine

The FLAURE agency created our garden last year. We are very pleased with the result and enjoy watching our garden grow. The agency was highly competent and always available, and met our needs and wishes while bringing fresh ideas. You can trust them! Thank you again.

Brigitte

I am very satisfied with the FLAURE agency’s work. (…) The proposal took into account the north, north-east and south-east exposures, to suggest suitable plants, as well as the constraints (co-ownership rules, a concrete slab, etc.). The idea of a journey through the garden that echoes our interior decoration is spot on. Finding landscapers and metalworkers for a flower dome let us save money by staying local, with adjusted quotes. Supervision of the works allowed the final corrections to be made and as much of the existing garden as possible to be saved. I can’t wait for spring to see it all in bloom!

Carine

I called on the FLAURE agency after buying a plot of land for our future house. We wanted to plan ahead and start creating a wooded area, with shade and fruit trees, a hedge to screen us from the street and space for a vegetable garden. The team took our needs into account and designed a project that suited us. Their drawings helped us picture the result. The works were well run and lived up to our expectations. In short, thank you FLAURE!
